MR BIG (Elusive Quality -
Basamaat by Danehill) took the juvenile scene by storm tonight when he
turned in a remarkable performance in the Restricted Maiden - 1000m sprint
on the polytrack at Kranji.
Drawn the widest berth in a
field of nine, the two-year-old was quickly in the lead, going further and
further ahead as the race progressed and eventually won by eight and three
quarters lengths against a field of mostly three-year-olds.
MR BIG has cost just
A$21,000 as a yearling and although trainer Michael Freedman had expected a
forward showing from the youngster, but the manner of his victory surprised
just about everyone.
The long wait for AL'S
KNIGHT (Fastnet Rock - Wisp by Last Tycoon) to make his racing debut has
been worth it for Knight Racing Stable as the three-year-old romped to an
easy victory in the Initiation - 1100m sprint.
With apprentice Mohd Sahren
Sanusi (S Sahren)
astride, the Australian gelding was just too smart for his rivals, leading
from start to win by three and a half lengths.
Purchased by trainer Don
Baertschiger for A$220,000 at the
Horses In Training Sale, AL'S KNIGHT landed in February last year.
