Huge upset by Parfumier in Singapore debut

PARFUMIER, at eight the oldest horse ever to be registered for racing in the local circuit, caused a stunning upset in his Singapore debut in the Open - 1200m sprint at Kranji tonight.

Ridden by Andrew John Sundradas, PARFUMIER (Belong To Me - Patou by Covetous) came from a long way back to defeat former Lion City Cup winner CAPABLANCA (Scenic - Ahava by Southern Appeal) by half-a-length.

BETTER BE THE ONE (More Than  Ready - Common Smytzer by Snippets), installed odds-on favourite after winning both his previous two starts in Singapore, finished third.

PARFUMIER, trained by John Meagher, paid $507 for a win.

PARFUMIER, bred by Gerald Harvey who co-founded the Harvey Norman chain and is also a major stakesholder in auction house Magic Millions Sales Pty Ltd, won seven races in five seasons of campaign in Australia and has given Harvey a winning start in his maiden foray into Singapore racing.
