Apprentice Rosmizian Suhaimi was today disqualified one year and fined RM50,000 for his ride on BE SURE in a Class 5 - 1600m handicap at Sungei Besi on April 3 when the Abdul Rahim trained three-year-old came from last of nine runners early to finish fourth to TRACK HERO. At the Penang Turf Club today, the Stewards concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of BE SURE in the above race. Evidence was taken from Rosmizan, the rider of BE SURE, in the presence of his master, trainer Tony Yeoh and trainer Abdul Rahim. Ms Chan Lee Fong, a Senior Court Interpreter, assisted Rosmizan in this inquiry. Rosmizan pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) in that whilst riding BE SURE in the above race, he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that BE SURE was given full opportunity of winning or of obtaining the best possible placing. The particulars of the charge were that: 1. From approximately the 1500m to the 700m, he failed to make sufficient effort to improve his position to race on the inside of TRACK HERO when there were opportunities to do so; 2. From approximately the 650m until near the 250m, he failed to ride his mount with sufficient vigour and determination; and 3. From the 200m until approaching the winning post, he failed to ride his mount with sufficient vigour and determination. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of this case, Rosmizan’s record and points of mitigation. After considering the provisions of MRA Rule 44(8)(a), Rosmizan was disqualified for a period of one year with immediate effect from today to May 12, 2012, both days inclusive. He was also fined the sum of RM50,000 and was advised of his right of appeal. |
