On the third racing day
after its reopening, the Penang track yielded its first course record when
not one but three winners bettered the previous record over the 1100m.
RUSH HOUR (Manner Hill - Amber Lunch by
Lunchtime), whose only previous win came 14 months ago, covered the distance
in 1 min 3.8 secs., slicing 1.2 second off the previous record set by NEW
TARGET in 2009.
RUSH HOUR returned RM1,232 on the win tote,
the highest payout since the unit bet for win and place was raised from RM5
to RM10 in March. Two
subsequent winners, however, failed to match his time.
FULL POWER (My Halo - Zingla by Danasinga)
returned 1 min 4.2 secs while BLAZING POWER (Clang - Angel of Harlem by
Switch In Time) clocked 1 min 4.1 secs.
It is a matter of time that the other course
records which have stood for years will fall in the coming days and weeks.
TURF SPEC (Magic Of Money - Bonhomie Gal by
Bletchley Park), who romped to an easy win in the Tunku Abdul Rahman
Anniversary Cup, returned a time of 1 min 22.6 secs which was just 0.9
second outside of the course record set by JERAM NEW VILLAGE in 2005.
MUDHISH (Redoute's Choice - Alzahra by Sir
Cat), who chalked up his second win in six starts in Malaysia in the Class 3
- 1200m sprint, went within 0.2 second of the course record shared jointly
by KING'S SEAL (1993) and I'M DEWAN (1999) when he clocked 1 min 9.5 secs.
