Apprentice Ruzaini Supien had his disqualification reduced from three years to two years on appeal today. Ruzaini was on Nov 18 last year handed a three-year disqualification after returning a positive urine test in Singapore on Oct 1. The Race Meeting Stewards heard his appeal today. During the appeal hearing, Ruzaini’s master, trainer Steven Cook, informed that Ruzaini was only appealing against the severity of the penalty imposed on him and not appealing against the decision of the Stipendiary Stewards. After considering submissions from Ruzaini, Cook and the chairman of the inquiry panel, the Race Meeting Stewards allowed the appeal against the severity of the penalty imposed by the Stipendiary Stewards. In regards to penalty, the disqualification was reduced to a period of two years with effect from Nov 18 last year to Nov 17, 2012 both dates inclusive. His deposit was refunded. |
