Samsir disqualified two years and fined

SINGAPORE:  Dec 6, 2011

Jockey Samsir Hamid was today handed a two-year disqualification  and fined S$50,000 for his handling of FUKU ICHIBAN in a Class 5 - 1200m handicap at Kranji on Oct 16.

FUKU ICHIBAN (Black Minnaloushe - Yulia by Hunza Court), trained by Mohd Yusof, started a firm second favourite and came from well off the pace early to finish sixth to WINNING DAN.

The inquiry into the running and riding of FUKU ICHIBAN was concluded today. After taking evidence from Samsir and Yusof, Samsir was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing. The particulars of the charge are:

1. in that, on jumping, he unnecessarily restrained his mount by pulling on the near-side rein, thereby resulting in his horse losing ground; and

2. in that, for a major part in the straight, he simulated the use of the whip and did not make contact with his horse.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account the nature of the charge and his record. Samsir was disqualified for a period of two years with immediate effect from today to Dec 5, 2013 both inclusive and in addition, he was fined a sum of S$50,000. He was advised of his right of appeal.
