Jacky Low suspended two months

SINGAPORE:  Nov 4, 2011

Apprentice Jacky Low (SH Low) was on Wednesday suspended for two months for his handling of AFRIEND in a Class 4, Div 1 - 1200m handicap at Kranji on Oct 21.

Trained by Don Baertschiger, AFRIEND (Danroad - Ahava by Southern Appeal) finished third to LIGHTNING MAC.

The inquiry into the run of AFRIEND was concluded on Wednesday. Low, in the presence of his master Baertschiger, was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) in that he failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards when he persisted to come to the outside of MATTERHORN (J Verenzuela) between the 400m until the 250m when there was a run available to the inside of that gelding at all times during this period.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, the nature of the charge and submissions from Low that he has been engaged to ride at the Singapore race meetings today and on Sunday. The Stewards determined to suspend his licence to ride in races and acting under MRA Rule 48(5), the commencement of the suspension was deferred to begin on Monday until Jan 6, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
