Jacky Lim and Aify suspended two months

Apprentice Jacky Lim and jockey Yudanyl Aify were today suspended two months each on different charges.

Lim returned a positive test in Penang on July 2 and an inquiry into the above matter was concluded at the Perak Turf Club today. Evidence were taken from Lim in the presence of his master, trainer Kevin Coetzee, Sim Hann Liang, Analyst, USains Holding Sdn Bhd, Dr Lam Yee Yoon, Club Medical Officer of the Perak Turf Club.

Lim pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 136(3)(b) and the particulars were that a urine sample coded J-1550 submitted by him on July 2 at the Penang Turf Club July Sprint Trophy Meeting 2011, on analysis, revealed the presence of "dextromethorphin", "ephedrine", "psedoephedrine" & "metabolites", which are prohibited substances under the MRA Rules.

In deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account the nature of the drug, his guilty plea and his record.

Lim was suspended for a period of two months backdated to July 8 which was the date when he was stood down from riding and to expire on September 7 (both days inclusive). He was advised of his right of appeal.

Aify was charged for his handling of EL MARIACHI in Penang on July 3. The six-year-old came from second last of 15 runners at the 800m to finish sixth to FREE GIFT in a Class 4 - 1400m sprint.

The Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of EL MARIACHI in the presence of Richard Lines, the trainer of EL MARIACHI. Ms Ng Xin Yee acted as interpreter for Aify.

Aify pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that whilst riding EL MARIACHI, he made insufficient effort to improve his position from near the 500m until approaching the 250m when there were opportunities to do so.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of the case, Aify’s points of mitigation, his guilty plea and his record. Aify was suspended from riding in races for a period of two months with effect from July 18 to expire on September 17 (both days inclusive). In addition, he was fined a sum of RM20,000. He was advised of his right of appeal.
