Last season's champion
trainer Kevin Cozetee saddled four winners from a card of eight races this
afternoon to ensure that the tussle for the 2011 championship will end in a
grandstand finish on the final day tomorrow.
Coetzee started the day
three behind this season's pace-setter Richard Lines and quickly threw down
the gauntlet winning two of the first three races with SHADOW WIND (Black
Minnaloushe - Madamax by Stylish Century) and GOOD FLYING (Fusaichi Pegasus
- Lackadaisical by Star Pyramul).
Lines swiftly replied with
a winner of his own, ACE ALPHABET (Sakua Seeking - Grosvenor's Court by
Grosvenor) but Coetzee won two more races with GOOD WINNING (Al Maher - Hy
Fuji by Fuji Kiseki) and NIGHT SHADOW (Hawk Wing - Octavia Belle by
Octagonal).
With the results today,
Lines and Coetzee are tied at 68 winners apiece but the former leads the
table with more second placings.
Lines has seven runners on
the final day tomorrow while Coetzee has lined up 13 horses for his final
assault on the championship which he first won in 2007. For Lines, it will
his first title if he could match Coetzee's winning score today.
