Venezuela-born jockey Jose Verenzuela had a dream start to his four-month
stint in Singapore when he booted home DR GRIGOROS in his very first ride at
Kranji this evening.
The four-year-old gelding
followed up on his last start success in Initiation company to capture the
Class 4, Div 2 - 1200m sprint on the polytrack. It was his second win in
five starts.
Out smartly from the
barrier, Verenzuela quickly took DR GRIGOROS (My Halo - Daanakbar by Al
Akbar) to the front and the pair led his rivals on a merry chase to win by 1
1/2 lengths.
"It’s nice to break the ice early,"
said the 42-year-old rider who is
currently based in California.
Starting out as an
apprentice in Venezuela where he was champion jockey in 1993, Verenzuela
also won duel tiles in Saudi Arabia (2000/01).
His biggest success to date came on 2009 Dubai World Cup
night when partnering BIG CITY MAN (Northern Afleet - Mini Appeal by Valid
Appeal) to victory in the Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen.
