South American jockeys
hogged the limelight at Kranji tonight when Joao Moreira and Jose Verenzuela
won seven races between them.
Moreira, who has already
smashed his own riding record of 116 winners set last year, added three more
wins to his name when successful on VERSAILLES PALACE (Grand Slam -
Maltese Lovers by Thunder Gulch), EL MILAGRO (Red Dazzler - Vinzky by
Stravinsky) and PRIMERA ESPADA (Stromberg Carlson - Aback by Marauding) to
being his tally to 126 for the season.
But Venezuela-born Verenzuela outshone the champion when he booted home four
winners from just six rides.
Verenzuela, who scored in
his very first ride in Singapore on DR GRIGOROS back in March, kicked off
his winning run with SUPREME GENERAL (French Deputy - Lavishly by Sunday
Silence) and scored again in his next ride on INCREDIBLE SON (Whywhywhy -
Gulley by Gulch).
Verenzuela then made full
use of his chance ride on SAMURAI KID (King Cugat - Estee Etoile by Last
Tycoon) before signing off the evening on BOMBAATA (Stravinsky - Final Leica
by Sir Tristram).
