Vorster takes second spot with late double

The Singapore 2011 racing season ended on a dramatic note today when Barend Vorster won the very last race to snatch second place in the jockey's table from Vlad Duric.

The jockey's title has long been wrapped up by Joao Moreira, who missed the entire December due to suspension, with 153 winners —  a new riding record.

With Duric currently serving a three-month, Vorster seized the opportunity to boot home a late double to finish with 84 winners, one ahead of Duric.

Vorster's double on the Patrick Shaw-trained DITTATORE (Redattore - Dites Moi by Choctaw Ridge) and VALEVOLE (Our Emblem - Garland Queen by Ghadeer) also sealed Shaw's first Singapore premiership title with 78 winners, 12 ahead of Leslie Khoo.

"I’m very pleased to have finished second especially as I missed three meetings when I went to ride Rocket Man in Hong Kong," said Vorster.
