WISE KING (Marju -
Tinikadua by Centaine) showed that there is still life at the age of ten
when he put his younger rivals to shame with a gutsy win in the Class 4 -
1700m handicap here today.
The New Zealand gelding was
last on settling down and still a long way from the leader in the back
straight. He then closed the gap on the leaders making the turn at the 600m
and was within striking distance at the top of the straight.
There was till plenty to do
in the home stretch and horses were stretched across the track. Eventually,
four horses drew away to fight out the finish. WISE KING, ridden by LL Tai,
went best next to the outside rails in the heavy going to win by a neck.
WISE KING won once in 13
starts in New Zealand when racing as O'Leary. He picked up four more wins in
Singapore during the 2006 and 2007 season when racing as MEXBOROUGH LADD.
He then showed that there
is plenty of racing left in him when he picked up two wins in Malaysia last
year.
