Apprentice Michael Yap has been suspended three months for his ride on LUCKY SUN in the Class 5 - 1200m sprint on the polytrack at Kranji on Oct 7. LUCKY SUN, trained by David Kok, finished eighth of 12 runners to FEELING GOOD. The inquiry into the run of LUCKY SUN was concluded on Tuesday. Yap, in the presence of his master Kok, was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) in that he failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in that whilst riding LUCKY SUN, he failed to ride that gelding with sufficient vigour and determination over the final 500m. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, the nature of the charge and submissions from Yap that he has been engaged to ride at the Singapore Race Meetings today and on Sunday. The Stewards determined to suspend his licence to ride in races and acting under MRA Rule 48(5), the commencement of the suspension was deferred to begin on Monday until Jan 30, both dates inclusive (a period of three months). He was advised of his right of appeal. |
