Ato backs up KrisFlyer with Patrons' Bowl win

ATO, who won the Group 1 KrisFlyer International Sprint (1200m) last time out, albeit in the absence of ROCKET MAN, enhanced his reputation with a fighting win in the S$500,000 Patrons' Bowl for four-year-olds at Kranji today.

The South African entire came into today's Singapore Group 1 fresh from his rather unexpected win last month. Prior to today, ATO (Royal Academy - Another Legend by Lyphard's Wish) has won six times in 19 starts against local opposition but never in a Group 1.

His best effort in Group 1 was a third in the Singapore Guineas (1600m) last year and today was only the second time that he has tackled the mile.

"I always believed that he would stay 1600m. He was third in the Guineas last year and now he’s a year older and much stronger. He is still maturing and is likely to find more," said Ricardo Le Grange, assistant trainer to Patrick Shaw.

Shaw believes he could get ATO a lot fitter for the Emirates Singapore Derby next month but whether he starts in the 2000m event, the final leg of the Singapore four-year-old series, remains to be seen.
