Aided by superb riding from
John Powell, new-kid-on-the-block Shane Baertschiger recorded his first
hat-trick (with three successive runners) at Kranji tonight beginning with
newcomer BAHEN.
The Australian
four-year-old, owned by mum Sally, came with a last charge after being held
up for a run on the inside of horses to win by three-quarter of a length.
BAHEN (Tale Of The Cat -
Mistinquett by Switch In Time), who cost A$100,000 as a yearling, had raced
seven times for a win and two placings.
Baertschiger's next runner
LONESOME ME (Flying Spur - Love's Here by Dehere) led all the way to record
his first win in five starts.
Odds-on favourite EL
MILAGRO (Red Dazzler - Vinzky by Stravinsky) brought up a superb evening for
the young trainer when he duly obliged to register his fourth win in seven
outings.
"It’s
been a good day at the office. You know at times, the horses I was getting
on had too much weight or didn’t have enough weight, but today, everything
has worked out well," said Baertschiger who took over from his father Don at
the beginning of March.
The hat-trick tonight
brought his tally to five so far.
