The career of SIMPLY THE
BEST (Stratum - Career Start by End Sweep) is back on track after a gutsy
win in the S$125,000 Luzerne Cup (Open - 1200m) at Kranji tonight.
After returning lame last
March, the New Zealand gelding spent six months on the sidelines following
an operation to remove a chip bone from a knee.
"He had three months rest
before we worked on him for three months to get him back after having the
bone chips removed," said trainer Desmond Koh who thinks highly of his
charge. "He’s a horse also with a lot of ability.”
After finishing eighth,
beaten just three lengths in the Garden City Trophy on his return to racing
two weeks ago, SIMPLY THE BEST stepped up on that run to score by a neck. It
was his sixth win in 16 starts.
SIMPLY THE BEST was the
second leg of a double for Joao Moreira who took his tally for the season to
170.
