Unplaced in 14 rides since
he began his six-month stint on Nov 1, French jockey
Davy Bonilla finally
got the break at Kranji tonight when he steered PIONEER SEVEN (Flying
Pegasus (AUS) - Enterprising Lady by Key Business) to victory in the
Restricted Maiden event over 1200m.
Things did not start well
for the multiple Group 1 winning jockey when his first ride of the evening
was withdrawn at the barrier in the opening event.
But disappointment quickly
turned to joy for Bonilla when his ride PIONEER SEVEN coasted to an easy
win.
Bonilla, 39, tracked the
favourite and pacemaker BIG RESPECT from the start before taking in the home
stretch to win by one and a half lengths.
It was the third start for
the Australian gelding was a beaten favourite in his last start back in
August and had five trails before racing again tonight.
"Things have started off
quietly but hopefully getting this win will help me along," said the
Frenchman.
