Opie Bosson began his
latest Singapore stint in style today when he combined with trainer Mark
Walker to capture the S$200,000 New Year Cup over 1900m on the polytrack
with FLYING FULTON at Kranji today.
Bosson, Walker and owner
David Ellis of Te Akau Racing Stable have won many black type races back in
New Zealand and Bosson said "it's a special feeling to get another big one
for Mark and David".
FLYING FULTON (Flying Spur
- Fulton by Zabeel), who cost NZ$210,000 as a yearling, won twice including
the listed Great Northern Foal Stakes before coming to Singapore where he
started off with a winning double.
The New Year Cup win today
was his second Group 3 success after taking out the Committee's Prize last
year. FLYING FULTON also finished third in the Group 1 Patrons' Bowl last
June and in winning today, set a new course record of 1min 58.67secs.
Bosson carried that form to
his next ride when he won the last event on RED BEARD (Zenno Rob Roy -
Sandalwood by Sandtrap).
In previous stints, Bosson
has won the Group 1 Singapore Gold Cup on RECAST (2008) and the Emirates
Singapore Derby on RACE AHEAD (2010).
"Hopefully I get a good run
in the next six months," said Bosson who has been granted a licence till
June 30.
