Australian jockey Noel
Callow, the man they nickname "King Callow" for his exploits in the MRA
circuit, was crowned the winner of the Selangor Turf Club 2012 international
jockeys championship after being placed in both the two championship races
staged today.
It was history repeating
itself as Callow also won the title last year and on the same day won the
Piala Emas Sultan Selangor (on RISKY BUSINESS). The Aussie won the same race
on SPEED BABY today.
Hironobu Tanabe won the
Gold Coast Turf Club Trophy (Class 4 - 1400m) on SINSEVEN, becoming the
first Japanese jockey to win on Malaysian soil for many years while Callow
finished second on AUSSIE SON.
British jockey Mark
Gallagher made a late bid to win the jockeys championship when successful on
PINA COLARDA in the Korea Racing Authority Trophy (Class 3 - 1600m) but a
third placing by Callow on aptly-named BE SURE made certain of victory for
the Aussie jockey who had a win and a second yesterday.
Callow earned a total of 30
points against 28 for Gallagher. Tanabe came third with 19 points after his
second placing on GOOD FRIEND in the Korea Racing Authority Trophy.
Callow took home prizes worth a total of
RM20,000 and a trophy. Gallagher earned RM5,000 cash and a trophy
while the Tanabe picked up RM3,000 cash and a trophy.
