Fresh from winning the RM500,000 Sprint Trophy on the Singapore raider MR RAFFLES in Penang yesterday, South African jockey Greg Cheyne receives further good news on his return to Singapore when he was granted a six-month extension to his licence. Cheyne relocated from Hong Kong — where he rode for three seasons — back in February, and landed his first win on CONQUEROR on Feb 12. Since then, Cheyne has been well sought after by a variety of trainers and has added 20 more wins to his name. With the six-month extension, he will now stay in Singapore till the end of the year. MR RAFFLES, trained by Michael Freedman, was the only Singapore trained horse to contest the Sprint Trophy this year and galloped into the history books as the first Singapore runner to win the race since the resumption of cross-border racing. It was also Cheyne first experience riding in Malaysia. In a career spanning 16 years, Cheyne has ridden in excess of 1,100 winners including 61 black type races and nine at Group 1 level. |
