First season apprentice
Chung Wah Thong landed his maiden win when he piloted TRIPLE KWAN to victory
in the Class 5 - 1100m sprint over the straight course here today.
It was the 16th ride for
the apprentice who is indentured to trainer Dr Tan Swee Hock in Penang but
it was Ipoh trainer Simon Liew who provided him with the breakthrough ride
today.
For TRIPLE KWAN (Stormy's
Son - Amberghini by Rustic Amber), it was a return to form after 20 months
out in the cold. The Australian gelding won once in 2009 and his last
success also came on this course and distance in October 2010.
Jockey Maverick Leong and
apprentice BN Kumar also have plenty of reasons to celebrate today after
booting home their first winner of the season.
Leong, who rode two winners
last year, his win on JETSETTER (Citidancer - Whisper To Me by Beau
Sovereign) in the opening race ended a long run of "outs".
Kumar, who has five wins
last season, opened account for the year with FLYING KISS (Fusaichi Pegasus
- Pink Mogul by Last Tycoon).
