Although he won three races in Australia, his less-than-stellar record considering his price tag saw him shipped to Singapore to continue his career.

Costing A$1.7mil at the Easter yearling Sale, THE COMEDIAN (Encosta De Lago - How Funny by Rory's Jester) campaigned for three seasons in Australia for three victories at Ballarat and Geelong, not managing a win in the city but was placed four times.

In his new environment, THE COMEDIAN is seriously making a name for himself as a top-flight galloper.

Resuming after two unplaced runs in Dubai and ridden for the first time by Stephen Baster, the Australian gelding revelled in the soft going to beat six rivals to win the Punters' Way Cup over 1400m here today. It was his sixth win in 13 starts at Kranji.

"He’s a talented horse but things didn’t quite go his way over in Dubai,” said trainer Michael Freedman. “I thought his first-up run when fourth over there was good but his last run was a little out of character for him."

"I think coming home to his home environment has really suited him."
