Leticia Dragon began her
career as the first woman trainer at Kranji with a winner on the opening day
of the 2012 Singapore racing season here today.
After learning the trade
for seven years from her father, just retired trainer Douglas Dragon, the
former air stewardess was beaming with pride when she led in CAIYAYA
(Columbia - Pesaro by Pevero) in the Happiness 2012 Handicap (Class 4, Div 1
- 1400m).
It was only her second
runner but racegoers were not exactly jumping for joy at her success. The five-year-old, winner of
five previous races under her father, was the second least supported runner
in the field and paid $396 for a win.
In Malaysia, it's an
all-time MRA record payout of RM2,852 for a win.
"When
Caiyaya hit the front, it was an amazing moment of euphoria,” said an elated
Dragon. “My dad gave me a hug and a high-five after we won. It was a great
moment!
“This is a dream start and hopefully there’ll be more winners to come."
