Edwards latest to set up shop in Malaysia

Shane Allen Edwards is the latest expatriate trainer to set up shop in Malaysia after being issued a licence by the Malayan Racing Association (MRA) last week.

The Australian has been granted 40 stables by the Selangor Turf Club.

Earlier this year, the MRA also granted licences to David Miller and Stephen Jones, both based by Penang, and Peter Fell, based at Sungei Besi.

This year also saw the return of former Malaysia champion trainer Frank Maynard, based at Sungei Besi.

At just 38, Edwards has won already won some of the top races in Perth where he was previously based, including last year 's Group 2 Perth Cup with GUEST WING (Right Wing - Lacienne by Metal Storm).

He also won the Group 1 Karrakatta Plate with NO QUESTIONS (Xaar - Sorboniere - Kenmare) with the Group 3 West Australian Oaks twice with WESTERLY BREEZE (Dr Johnson - Miss Thunderbolt by Thunder Gulch) in 2007 and CASSANDARA SHADOW (Johannesburg - Pentamerous by Pentire) in 2009.
