Rising Empire wins Juvenile Championship

Leticia Dragon, who took over the reins from her father Douglas at the start of the season, achieved her first group success when RISING EMPIRE (Dehere - Chandon Rose by Flying Spur) triumphed in the S$200,000 Magic Millions Juvenile Championship at Kranji here today.

Ridden an inspired race by champion jockey Joao Moreira, the Australian gelding had to overcome the second widest barrier in a capacity field of 16 to snatch victory by a head from HOLY EMPIRE.

RISING EMPIRE had just three runners behind him when he field settled down but Moreira managed to get him going in the home stretch, powering down the centre of the track.

"I’m very excited. This is my first Group winner," said Leticia who was quick to pay tribute to her dad. "He’s my mentor and my inspiration," she said.

"I’m very proud of her,” the senior Dragon said. “She’s been doing very well. It is not an easy business to be in."

RISING EMPIRE has now started four times for Leticia for two wins and two seconds, having finished second in his debut for Brian Dean.
