year SINGAPORE: May 2, 2012 |
||
Jockey Mark Ewe was today disqualified one year for his handling of ABYSS in a Class 5 - 1100m sprint on the polytrack at Kranji on Apr 20, 2012. ABYSS, trained by Brian Dean, came from last early to finish fifth to CONQUEROR. The inquiry into the running of ABYSS was concluded today. After taking evidence from Ewe and Dean, Ewe was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing. The particulars of the charge are: 1. in that between the 600m and the 400m, he failed to shift to the outside of NAPOLEON B (Alan Munro) to improve his position when it was reasonable and permissible to do so; 2. in that between the 400m and the 300m, he failed to shift to the outside of ANIWA (Mohd Airy) to obtain clear running when it was reasonable and permissible to do so; and 3. in that near the 200m, after directing his mount inwards resulting in him racing behind DECISIVE (V Sivan) for some distance, he failed to attempt to come to the inside of that gelding to obtain clear running when it was reasonable and permissible to do so. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account the nature of the charge and his record. Ewe was disqualified for a period of one year with immediate effect from today to May 1 next year, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal. Jockey Ewe subsequently exercised his right of appeal against the decision of the Stipendiary Stewards and the penalty imposed on him. On application, he was granted a stay of sentence. The appeal will be heard at a date to be fixed. |
