FLYING FULTON stepped up on
his terrific second to WHAT NOW in the Group 2 EW Barker Trophy (1400m)
three weeks ago to capture the S$175,000 Colonial Chief Stakes over 1700m on
the polytrack at Kranji here tonight.
Named after the first
Singapore trained horse to win a race overseas, the race replaced the Pronin
Construct Stakes who was discontinued this year. It was the final feature of
the 2012 Singapore racing calendar.
It was FLYING FULTON's
fourth Group 3 success following his wins in the Committee's Prize last
year, and the New Year Cup and Polytrack Mile Championship this season.
Partnered by apprentice
Shafiq Rizuan for the second consecutive time, the Australian gelding was
sent out favourite in the Group 3 contest on the strength of his last run
and did not disappoint.
Settling his midfield,
Shafiq waited patiently for his move before running down the front-running
GOODPACK win by two lengths.
It was the ninth win in 34
starts at Kranji for FLYING FULTON who also picked up two wins in New
Zealand prior to coming to Singapore.
