Another woman will join the trainer's ranks after Edylyn Goh Yi Ching was issued her professional licence today. Goh will be based in Ipoh and is currently the fourth woman to ply her trade in the local circuit after Evelyn Seet (Ipoh), Katherine Hughes (Kuala Lumpur) and Leticia Dragon (Singapore). She was assistant trainer to Stephen Cook before the Perak Turf Club granted her stables. At the same time, the MRA announced that Abdul Rahim bin Abdul Rahman had relinquished his licence with effort from April 16. Rahim is the younger brother of former jockey Mohd Ismail who also tried his hand at training, quite successfully, before bowing out of the scene in 2005. Rahim was assistant trainer to Yashaiya Ahmad before setting his own stables in 2000. His best season was in 2007 when he sent out 25 winners. Rahim, who saddled 23 winners last year, was left with very few horses after his assistant Wayne Lim was granted stables at Sungei Besi early this year and took over the training of most of his horses. Rahim had just one winner this year before calling it quits. |
