Alex Chew, who has been
trying his luck in Singapore for the past three months, finally landed his
first winner at Kranji when successful on TOP HAPPINESS (Bertolini - Mal by
St Hilarion) in the Class 5, Div 1 - 1700m handicap on the polytrack
tonight.
The Ipoh jockey's fortunes
have been on the decline since hitting career of 21 winners in 2007. He rode
12 winners the following year and has not achieved double digits since.
He rode just five winners
last year and thus far this season has managed three wins in Malaysia.
After managing two previous
placings in his foray to Singapore earlier, Chew achieved the breakthrough
when he made all the running on TOP HAPPINESS who coasted home by five and a
quarter lengths, defeating the favourite TERRA FIRMA.
"I wanted to improve my
riding and I thought the competition in Singapore was more challenging and
would give me a different experience," said Chew.
