Just three weeks after
making his Malaysia debut, overseas trained Mohamad Helmy has landed his
first win in the country after piloting LITTLE RAINFOREST (Magic Albert -
Arthur's Lass by Unduplicated) to victory in the opening race here today.
Helmy, who went to New
Zealand in 2006 to learn his trade, rode 231 winners in his time there.
The overseas experience was
evident when he got the Australian three-year-old
home a short head in front of SUPERFLY SISTER in a tight finish. The winner
paid RM302 for a win.
It was the first win in
five starts for LITTLE RAINFOREST who has cost A$100,000 as a yearling, the
first success for trainer Wee Meng Hua since he relocated to Penang last
week.
Wee, 51, has been making a
name for himself after being granted his A licence last September. His won
with his very first runner YOURS TRULY and has since picked up 25 more wins
since.
Sarawak-born Wee, began
his career in racing as syce in 1985, gradually worked his up to become a
stable supervisor in 2005 and assistant trainer three years later.
