After drawing a blank on
the first weekend of the 2012 season last weekend, champion Jackson Low was
off the mark in the new season when he booted home SPEED KNIGHT in a Class 5
- 1400m handicap here today.
Low, who won the
premiership for the first time with 65 winners last year, settled SPEED
KNIGHT (Jetball - Almighty Sister by Amen Brother) just behind pacesetter
GLUTINOUS KID, and mastered the leader after a tussle to win by
half-a-length.
Meanwhile, veteran trainer
Leong Poh Keong stole the limelight with a treble today, winning the first
two races with NORTH TO ALASKA (Ishiguru - Charismatic by Al Hareb) and
JOYFUL (Howbaddouwantit - Maplewood by Oregon).
The former jockey picked up
his third for the afternoon when ACTUARIAL TALENT (Zerpour - Hunter Tylo by
Stark South) made it back-to-back wins in a Class 4 - 1600m handicap.
