Fresh from winning the
RM250,000 Sports Toto Supreme Challenge Trophy here last month, RYAN JAMES
(Thorn Park - Mighty Myrtle by O'Reilly) easily won the final leg of the
"Carlsberg Gold" Cup over 1600m at Sungei Besi today.
In winning the RM150,000
event, the New Zealand seven-year-old also emerged as the champion in the
three-leg series and earned a bonus of RM50,000 for his owners St George
Stable, after having finished fourth in the second leg over 1400m in August.
RYAN JAMES, ridden for the
first time by Jose De Souza, was just kept just off the pace and won drawing
away by two and three quarter lengths.
It was the eighth career
win for RYAN JAMES who picked up five wins in Singapore for trainer Stephen
Gray. Since relocating to Malaysia, he has enjoyed a superb revival won
three of six starts for trainer Richard Lines.
