BETTER LIFE, who raced in
the shadows of SUPER EASY earlier in the season, ended the unbeaten run of
the latter in the S$500,000 Panasonic Kranji Mile at Kranji here today.
BETTER LIFE (Smarty Jones -
Quiet Life by Sunday Silence) finished fourth in both the Three Year Old
Classic and the Group 1 Singapore Guineas which were won by SUPER EASY.
Turning four, the
Australian mare picked up a win and a second from two starts before tackling
the Group 1 race today.
SUPER EASY, meanwhile,
continued to pick up group wins and was going for his 13th consecutive
success in the Kranji Mile.
Both horses raced off the
pace early. SUPER EASY, with regular jockey Joao Moreira astride, hit the
front momentarily at the 200m but failed to kick away.
It was then BETTER LIFE,
with Epsom Derby winning jockey Alan Munro in the saddle, charged home on
his outside and proved too strong in the run home, winning by one and a half
lengths.
"My long range plan with
her is to try and win the Derby next year," said Hideyuki Takaoka who is
also the trainer of former Horse Of The Year JOLIE'S SHINJU, winner of the
Derby in 2009.
Purchased for A$150,000 at
the Easter Yearling Sale, BETTER LIFE has won won five times in eight
starts, earning just over $480,000 in prizemoney.
