Joao Moreira booted home
five winners at Kranji today to equal his own of 153 wins achieved last
season, and there is another three months to go before the 2012 Singapore
racing season ends on Dec 16.
With a strike rate of 32%,
the double century mark is not out of reach for the Brazilian who first came
to Singapore in 2009 and finished third in the table that season.
He quickly went on to set a
new riding record with 116 winners the following year before raising the bar
even higher last season.
Booked on nine rides in
today's programme, Moreira started off with a double in the opening two
races on WARRIOR (O'Reilly - Black Sugar by Sound Reason) and JACKPOT (Artie
Schiller - Shallot by Ne Coupez Pas).
It was back-to-back win
again midway through the afternoon astride ROUGH DAY (Dubai Destination -
Paulini by Singspiel) and RISING EMPIRE (Dehere - Chandon Rose by Flying
Spur) before he arrived at the 153 mark with the aptly-named GRAND ARRIVAL
(Pure Prize - Flupp by Lode).
The win truly demonstrated
the wizardry of Moreira who brought the Argentinean horse from second last
at the home turn to snatch victory by a nose in a thrilling finish.
