Champion jockey Joao
Moreira was at his brilliant best once again at Kranji tonight when he
booted home five winners. But for HEARTS finishing second in his third ride
of the evening, the Brazilian could have make it six wins in six consecutive
rides.
Moreira took the first two
races on eight-year-old ANAVILA (Anabaa - Highest Cool by Highest Honor) and
STRAIGHT UP (Handsome Ransom - Regelle by Exploding Prospect), who finished
on board in all four starts in New Zealand and was a first-up second in
Singapore.
Moreira then scored on two
horses he was riding for the first time, MARANELLO (Testa Rossa - Rose
Reward by Sir Tristram) and HAPPY MORE (Untouchable - Princess Joal by
Centro) before renewing partnership with THE COMEDIAN (Encosta De Lago - How
Funny by Rory's Jester) to take the Open - 1400m sprint.
THE COMEDIAN, a A$1.7mil
yearling who won three minor races in Australia, has now registered five
wins in 12 starts in Singapore and earned a ticket to Dubai.
If he measures up in a
lead-up race there, trainer Michael Freedman hopes to get an invite to one
of the races on World Cup night.
