MR BIG (Elusive Quality -
Basamaat by Danehill) collected his fourth success at group level in
Singapore when he turned the table on YIN XIN to captured the Singapore
Group 3 S$200,000 Woodlands Handicap over 1,200m on the polytrack at Kanji
here today.
The Australian gelding was
a given a let-up after his gutsy second to ATO in the Group 1 KrisFlyer
International Sprint last May and when resuming two weeks, ago went down
second to a much fitter YIN XIN over 1100m.
With the run under his
belt, MR BIG proved too strong for YIN XIN, leading from the start and
staving off the latter's challenge to win by one and quarter length. YIN XIN
was beaten to second spot by SPEEDY CAT.
The win today enhanced MR
BIG's growing reputation. He was the top juvenile last year, winning the
Group 2 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe and the Group 3 Juvenile Championship.
He also beat ATO to win the
Group 3 Kranji Sprint last April and has now won eight of his 16 starts and
brought his earnings to more than A$1 million mark.
"Unlike what his name
suggests, he’s not exactly big, but he’s such a genuine horse and always
gives his 110% every time he runs," said trainer Michael Freedman.
