It was half the mission
accomplished for visiting jockey Craig Williams when he partnered NANDOWRA
to win the S$200,000 JBBA Moonbeam Vase over 1800m at Kranji here today.
Brought in by trainer
Michael Freedman for today's double header, the Melbourne based rider had
earlier in the afternoon finished third on MASTHEAD in the S$200,000 Kranji
Sprint (1200m).
But Williams made no
mistake on NANDOWRA (Savabeel - Fabaz by O'Reilly) who led from start to
finish, holding off the challenges of SILVERON WINGS and CHASE ME in a
thrilling finish in the soft gong.
Since his dismal outing in
the Singapore Gold Cup last November on a similar track, the New Zealand
gelding has been unbeatable this season, winning all his four outings to
date.
NANDOWRA cost just
NZ$25,000 as a yearling and has now chalked up seven wins and four placings
in 14 starts.
"Even though he’s a
four-year-old he’s still learning what racing is all about and when he
finally puts it altogether I think he might be a handy stayer of the
future," said Freedman.
NANDOWRA will now have a
let-up before being prepared for the Singapore Derby in July.
