Niceone wins first-up after long layoff

NICEONE (Ishiguru - Triage by Volksraad) returns to racing after a six months and quickly made up for lost time to win the Class 3 - 1100m sprint on the polytrack here today.

With Soo Kheng Beng in the saddle, the New Zealand gelding started odds-on despite the long layoff and gave his backers little anxious moments, leading from start to finish to win by three-quarter of a length.

Purchased for NZ$50,000 at the Ready To Run sale, NICEONE has now chalked up four wins and a second from six starts.

"He had a chip in his knee and required a surgery," said trainer Leslie Khoo. "I know he relaxes well and that helped him through recovery."
