Double for Eirwan, Penang races curtailed

PENANG:  Oct 7, 2012

Heavy rain forced the Penang races to be curtailed today — the first time since the Penang track was re-laid two years ago.

The Penang track has taken a pounding during the week, with both yesterday's eight races and four races today run in heavy going. The other four events were called off.

Leading jockey Eirwan Khalid took his chances well today to boot home a double astride AUSSIE INVADER (Marwina - Medina Mist by Plush) and HUMBLE HARVEST (Bahhare - Famette by Famous Star).

It has been a long road back for the former, whose last win came in April 2010. It's now 3 wins in 32 starts for the eight-year-old.

For HUMBLE HARVEST, it was instant success under trainer Cecil Robert who took over the New Zealand gelding, who has three previous wins, only recently.

Eirwan now lead the table with 46 winners, 12 ahead of Jai Shankar.
