Two Perth riders try luck in Malaysia

IPOH:  July 19, 2012

Perth Cup-winning jockey Alan Kennedy and a former top Perth apprentice Duncan Miller are the new faces in the Malaysian riding ranks this week.

Kennedy, 23, was stable jockey for Adam Durrant when he won the 2010 Perth Cup on LORDS RANSOM (Jeune - Palace Alice by Palace Music).

Kennedy won the 2007-08 apprentices’ title and was runner-up to Jarrad Noske the following season.

He also won the 2009 WA Guineas on CLUELESS ANGEL (Oratorio (AUS) - Petite Angel by Marooned) and has 276 winners to his name.

Weight issues have stymied Kennedy’s career in recent seasons and Malaysia will be his first overseas stint.

Miller, 20, son of accomplished jockey Stephen and trainer Sharon, has also battled increasing weight throughout his career but still managed to pick up more than 150 winners.

Amomgst his more notable wins were last year’s Hyperion Stakes and the 2010 Hannan’s Handicap on KING KOOL KAT (King Cugat - Affaire En Or by Dieu D’Or).

He rode on loan for three months for established Melbourne trainer Danny O’Brien during his apprenticeship.
