RAPIDO STAR turned giant
killer in his biggest test to date in the Kranji Stakes A - 1000m sprint on
the polytrack at Kranji here this evening.
The American entire has
proved pretty useful against lesser company, winning five of 19 races
including last time out in a Benchmark 74 event.
Although he faced only four
rivals after three runners were withdrawn on course, he still had to contend
with MR BIG, who has won his last two starts in Group 3, and YIN XIN, thrice
placed in Group 3 this season.
But RAPIDO STAR, ridden by
Ivaldo Santana, brought the four-year-old from last position at the home
turn to win by half a length from the odds-on favourite MR BIG, returning
S$78 for a win.
"I was so happy to finally
ride a winner for Leticia (Dragon)," said Santana. The trainer has been very
supportive of the rider since he first landed in Singapore.
Meanwhile, Joao Moreira,
who resumed riding in Singapore after being away in South Africa last week,
booted home a double on CALIFORNIAN GIRL and JUMBO CAN to be just one win
away from the magical 200 mark.
