They say it is better late
than never. That has proven to be the case with SHAMACAM (Shamardal -
Dynacam by Dynaformer).
Trained by Sir Michael
Stoute, the English horse did not race as a juvenile and his five outings at
three brought three placings in minor races at Leicester, Newbury and
Sandown.
That was never good enough
for his owner Saeed Suhail and his legendary trainer, and he was dispatched
to trainer Aditiyan Selvaratnam here in the midst of his three-year-old
season.
After his arrival in August
last year, SHAMACAM was given a thorough preparation and had his first start
only at the end of last month when he finished third over the Ipoh 1100m
straight course in Maiden company.
With the benefit of that
run, SHAMACAM quickly proved his class to beat the odds-on favourite COLIN
THE FIRTH in the RM150,000 first leg of the Malaysia 4YO Challenge over
1200m at Sungei Besi here today.
The winner's dam, a
half-sister to a Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner, had won over 2011m and
SHAMACAM could prove to be even more formidable in the second leg over 1600m
(in Ipoh on Nov 25) and third leg over 2000m (in Penang on Dec 23).
