Ipoh trainers make clean sweep

Ipoh based trainers made a clean sweep of the eight races on the card in this opening day of the Perak Derby meeting here today, with Nor Azman leading the way with three winners.

I NEED YOU SO (Don Tristram - Interview by Wiganthorpe) followed up on his last start success to kick off the day for Azman who followed up with MY DIAMOND (El Moxie - At The Bar by Akaaber) and LIM'S QUARTZ (Quorum - Java Belle by Zabeel).

Nine-year-old LIM'S QUARTZ showed that there is still plenty of racing left in him with his eighth win in 79 starts. The treble moved Azman to joint third in the table with 16 winners.

Peter Lee, who failed to saddle a winner last year, continued his resurgent winning the opening event with MR MERCIFUL (Show A Heart - L'Arcobaleno by Spectrum) and ending the day with YOU LITTLE RIPPER (Honours List - Acquirenda by Arzai), bringing his tally for the season to five.

But the big shock came in the Class 3 - 1200m sprint when NORTH TO ALASKA (Ishiguru - Charismatic by Al Hareb), a winner in Class 4 two starts back, chalked up his fifth win in 17 starts and paid RM408 for a win.
