TARAMIS, who has finished
no better than sixth and usually brought up the rear in most of 11 previous
starts, sprang a spectacular upset in the Maiden - 1200m sprint here today.
Bought for A$50,000 as a
yearling, the Australian gelding had two starts at Kranji but was quickly
written off and shipped to Kuala Lumpur to trainer Tan Soo Beng.
His form in Malaysia has
been anything but inspiring. In fact he finished dead last in his last three
starts.
However, ridden by Jose De
Souza for the first time today, TARAMIS (Oratorio (IRE) - Miss Emmyo by
Octagonal) won easily by three lengths to pay RM1,996 for a win. It's the
biggest payout since Malaysia switched to RM10 per unit for win and place
betting.
