TOSHI TOSHI showed up for
the first time in seven starts to score a spectacular upset in the Royal
Turf Club of Thailand Trophy (Class 5 - 1400m) here today, giving trainer
Wee Meng Hua his second winner since moving base to Penang last month.
TOSHI TOSHI has had a
troubled start to her racing career. After landing unraced in January 2010,
it was to be more than 16 months later he made her racing debut.
After two runs, Wee took
over the mare and it was another six months before she resumed racing.
Having finished down the field in five previous starts this season, TOSHI
TOSHI was as expected neglected in the betting and he paid RM434 for her win
today.
After more than six months
and 49 runners later, trainer Bonny Ng finally saddled his first winner of
the season when THEBETSON (Happy Giggle - Diamond Grove by Noalcoholic) led
a stable 1-2 in the final event.
The Australian gelding
began racing only at four and quickly notched up a win from four starts back
home before landing in Penang for Ng last November.
THEBETSON was placed three
times in five starts this year before making his breakthrough today. With
apprentice Bukhari Abdul Hamid in the saddle, the five-year-old came from a
midfield position to win by two lengths. It was just his second winner since
making a comeback last year.
