MIGHTY TRIPLE ACE returned
to form after a lapse of 18 months to score a huge upset in the RM300,000
Tunku Gold Cup over 1200m at Sungei Besi here today.
The Australian gelding had
a prolific 36 months from August 2007 when he won eight races in 22 starts,
including the Astro Wah Lai Toi Vase in 2009.
Early last year, MIGHTY
TRIPLE ACE (Testa Rossa - Brave Scene by Scenic) crossed the causeway but
failed to show up in 10 outings at Kranji.
Returning to Malaysia and
coming under Katherine Hughes, the seven-year-old began to show his old dash
again and was on board in three of four starts leading up to today's race.
Ridden by Eirwan Khalid,
MIGHTY TRIPLE ACE defeated the well-performed GOOD JUDGEMENT by a neck with
the bang-in-form MUDHISH a further neck away third. Then winner paid RM250
for a win. It was the
first Cup win for Hughes who is in her second season in the local circuit.
