SS Vanan suspended two months and fined

SINGAPORE:  Mar 24, 2012

Apprentice SS Vanan has been fined RM10,000 and suspended two months for his handling of SPEEDY BORONIA in a Class 5 - 1600m handicap at Sungei Besi last Saturday.

The veteran eight-year-old finished second, beaten just half a length, to OPPORTUNE TIME.

The Selangor Turf Club steward opened an inquiry on Tuesday to further question. At the conclusion of the inquiry, Vanan, in the presence of his master, trainer Tony Yeoh, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

The particulars of the charge were that at 400m, the Stewards were not satisfied with his explanation for changing his whip from right hand to left hand and that he did not ride with satisfactory vigor to the finish of the race.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account the facts of this case, Vanan‘s points of mitigation and his previous record. Vanan was fined RM10,000 and suspended from riding in races for a period of two months. As Vanan was earlier suspended from Mar 18 to Apr 8, his suspension will take effect from Apr 9 and to expire on Jun 8, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
