Since his relocation from
Singapore, where he picked up one win in eight starts, WIENER (Snitzel -
Zsabelle by Zabeel) has been a model of consistency in the Malaysian scene.
The Australian gelding
picked up his fourth success of the season when he triumphed in the RM75,000
Dato Sir Clough Thuraisingham Trophy at Sungei Besi here today.
The Class 3 - 1600m
handicap was held on memory of the late chairman of the Selangor Turf Club.
It was also the five-year-old's
third win in his last four outings and kept jockey Jai Shankar's hope of
winning the premiership alive with a double for the day.
Shankar had won the opening
event with CHINA TOWN BANK (De Troy - Southern Paradise by Valid Appeal).
Despite the gelding's poor recent form, he surprisingly started favourite to
record his second win in 18 starts.
Eirwan Khalid, desperately
trying to hold on his lead in the premiership in the face of a good recent
run of successes by Jose De Souza, booted home a double on KIM DIVA (Theatre
- Colour Me Kim by Is It True) and BOY (Istidaad - Validity by Kashani) to
bring his tally for the season to 50.
De Souza is five behind
after winning on HAPPY AMIGO (Falvelon - Miss Lehaar by Biscay Wonder).
Shankar is on 42 wins.
