CIZEN WORLD (Savabeel -
Dashing Wedding by Danasinga), who cost NZ$3,000 as a yearling, turned giant
killer in the RM300,000 Malayan Racing Association Cup here today.
The four-year-old, trained
by Dr Tan Swee Hock and ridden by Khalid Eirwan, came with a late burst to
beat EAGLE, who deadheated with BLUE TOSCA to win the Sprint Trophy last
year, by a short head after EAGLE had taken a clear lead 200m out.
TEARS TO DIAMONDS, having
his first start of the season after reeling off five consecutive wins last year
including the Yang Di Pertua Negeri Gold Cup, was a further neck away third.
CIZEN WORLD, however, had
shown his potential on this track last month when he rewrote the 1400m
course record with a time of 1:21.16.
He failed to match that
time today but the way he battled on all the way up the home stretch spoke
volumes of his fighting qualities.
It was the seventh win in
28 starts for CIZEN WORLD, but for Dr Tan, it was his best ever day in two
decades as a trainer when he saddled five winners.
Khalid rode three of Dr
Tan's winners while Oscar Chavez and Harmeet Singh Gill rode one each for Dr
Tan.
